2021 Jewelry Trends

Last year was anything but normal.  As 2020 progressed, it evolved into the year of athleisure, lounge wear and "waist up dressing".  As we start 2021, jewelry trends feel more like a 2020 "reboot" with many of the same themes.  In this post, we break down our favorite 2021 trends with a vintage twist.

Gold chains are still trending. From bold statement, collar & choker lengths.  Lariat style chains and long chains are popular.  Lariats are long ‘Y’ shaped sometimes knotted without a clasp. New to the mix is silver chains and pendants.

Vintage twist:  Look for classic designers such as Anne Klein and Givenchy.  Both are known for chains with logo accents.  Kenneth Jay Lane is another designer with bold statement size chains.  Napier, Monet & Trifari vintage chains in various link styles are readily available in good condition at prices that won’t break the bank. Hoops are still in but bolder and larger.   This trend is one that seems to never go out of style.

Vintage twist:  We love this trend as it is relatively easy to find vintage hoop earrings in both pierced and clip on styles.  All the major vintage jewelry designers have some form of chunky hoop or door knocker earrings.  Some examples to look for are Napier, Givenchy and Trifari.

Pearls are trending from earrings to necklaces.  Classic to baroque (gaining popularity this year) and single strand or layered pearl jewelry you'll find on the runways.

Vintage twist:  To make your vintage pearls look and feel “modern”, layer them with your chain bracelet stack or necklaces.  Add strings of your favorite color beads to make a statement.  Vintage pearl rings and brooches are another way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe.  You’ll find all major vintage jewelry designers have faux or simulated pearl jewelry.  Noteworthy are Marvella, Trifari and Christian Dior.  When purchasing vintage faux pearl necklaces look for double knotted strand, check to make sure the ‘pearls’ are in good condition (no excessive wear or peeling) and always check the length to ensure the correct fit.  As pearls come in a wide variety "white" be sure to read descriptions or ask questions if purchasing online as pictures don’t always display true color.

New this year is silver.  Silver everything:  bracelets, necklace & pendants, and earrings.

Vintage twist: There are plenty of vintage boho, classic necklaces and cuff bracelets.  Look for vintage designer Trifari, Monet and Coro.  An added bonus of purchasing vintage silver plated jewelry, is often pieces were double or think plated in silver.  Rhinestones set in silver are also trending - a classic staple in the 50s & 60s.

One of my favorite trend is charms, coins, lockets and Talisman jewelry.  Worn for centuries, talisman jewelry carries the symbolism of protection, luck and good fortune to name a few.  Sometime referred to these as amulets, totems and good luck charms they are worn to project one's presents feelings and hope for the future. What better way to personalize your look.   

Vintage twist:  The possibilities are endless when it comes to the vintage charm.  Charm bracelets were popular in the 50s and 60s.  Makers like Monet had lines of charms that could be added to bracelets or pendants.  There are gold-filled hearts and lockets from the 40s and 50s.  Real coin tourist bracelets and signet rings are another option.  See our charm collection for endless ways to personalize your signature style.
